Registration Opens for Inaugural Virginia Recovery Conference, Bringing Together Leaders Advancing Substance Use Recovery Across the Commonwealth

The Virginia Opioid Abatement Foundation today announced that general registration is now open for the inaugural Virginia Recovery Conference, a new statewide gathering designed to unite leaders, practitioners, policymakers and advocates working to address substance use disorder and strengthen recovery systems across Virginia.

The first-ever Virginia Recovery Conference will take place June 15–17, 2026, at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. Hosted by the Virginia Opioid Abatement Foundation in partnership with the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, the conference will serve as a premier forum for sharing evidence-based strategies, innovative programs and collaborative solutions to combat the opioid and substance use crisis. This statewide gathering is expected to bring together more than 400 local government representatives, first responders, clinicians, behavioral health providers and recovery-focused professionals from across the Commonwealth.

Through keynote presentations, breakout sessions and networking opportunities, attendees will explore effective approaches in prevention, harm reduction, treatment, recovery support, criminal justice response and long-term community recovery.

“The Virginia Recovery Conference is an important milestone in Virginia’s ongoing efforts to build a stronger, more connected recovery ecosystem,” said Tim Spencer, President of the Virginia Opioid Abatement Foundation. “The event will bring together experts and changemakers from across the Commonwealth, creating a space where ideas can be shared, partnerships can grow and communities can gain practical tools to save lives and support recovery.”

The conference is designed to spotlight initiatives that align with allowable uses of opioid settlement funds and provide actionable guidance for communities investing in abatement strategies. Attendance costs, including registration and required travel, are considered allowable expenditures under OAA guidelines.

Session topics will include:

  • Community-based prevention and early intervention strategies
  • Expanding access to treatment and recovery support services
  • Peer-led recovery models and lived-experience leadership
  • Harm reduction innovations and overdose prevention
  • Cross-sector partnerships to strengthen local recovery ecosystems
  • Effective use of opioid abatement funds for sustainable impact

Registration is now open, and early registration is encouraged as space is limited. Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are also available for interested vendors.
